Message usually in any decent size town they will have a lot of people there doing the same. The judge wont even be there when it starts because they go through the whole process of calling everyone one by one to talk to the DA (Or more likely an assistant DA fresh out of college) They will ask you how you want to plea and you shouldn't have to feel like they are the bad guys, just explane the situation to them and ask them if they will cut you some sort of break. (You may want to leave out the part about spending the ticket money on a radar detector and the part where you almost just ran for it). It all depends on the severity of the ticket but the ADA will likely give you some sort of leway for your situation. Also dont be afraid to try and bargain with them. If you acccept then you just sign something and deal is done. If you decline, or they dont offer anything to you then you can wait and go in front of the judge. At that point you dont really have the best chance because you really need some good extenuating circumstances for the judge to overturn a ticket, although that obviously depends on the judge and by how much you were speeding, whether you were actually clocked etc.

If you want to go another route and plan some strategic legal defence and cite your constitutional rights and stuff, well then you really need to get a lawyer to actually go in with you and your gonna pay more than 300$ anyway (unless you have legal insurance) That might work, but realistically I'd give you the same chances either way.

FWIW I'm not a lawyer or a paralegal or anything to do with the government aside from being in law enforcement (which does not make me in any way capable of helping you with your defence) the information I am giving you is purely from experience with speeding tickets I've recieved, and most of it is from Georgia which may be different from Texas.
